Fact-Checking Kanye West's Latest Wild Yeezy Claims
In Donald Trump, Kanye West has found his spiritual equal: both are self-obsessed men who will bend, manipulate, or arm-twist any sliver of truth in order to gas themselves up. Now the stakes are much higher. Yesterday, Kanye met with Trump in the Oval Office. Somewhere in between explaining that he loved Trump for returning male energy to his life and making up something called an iPlane that runs on hydrogen, Kanye, naturally, found a way to talk about his influence at Adidas. But was he accurate? This is the Kanye Fact-Check: Volume 2.
Kanye’s 10-minute speech at the Oval Office apparently wasn’t long enough for him to purge all his thoughts so he hopped over to the nearby Apple Store in Georgetown to give what he called a “keynote,” according to RNS reporter Jack Jenkins. Kanye told the crowd that he made Trump a new hat that removed “Again” from POTUS’s MAGA slogan.
What surfaced a couple minutes later? A photo of Trump wearing this cursed Kanye-redesigned hat. And somehow the image was even worse than what Kanye described. Trump is seen in the photo wearing the new hat alongside stooges Jared Kushner and his daughter Ivanka, who are also wearing new hats from Kanye. Jared’s reads “Travel Space Again”—remember that one of Trump’s pet projects is building something called “Space Force”—while Ivanka’s is embroidered with “Make Earth Great Again.”
According to TMZ, Kanye asked Trump’s team in advance what his shoe size was and brought the president a pair of size-12 Yeezys. When we got excited about Kanye promising Yeezys for all, we should have realized that this was what he meant.
Kanye explained his reasoning for hooking POTUS up during his Oval Office, uh, statement. “What I need Saturday Night Live to improve on, or what I need the liberals to improve on is, if he don’t look good [pointing to Trump], we don’t look good. This is our President. He has to be the freshest, the flyest.” This is all in line with Kanye’s habit of taking conservative and alt-right figures and trying to change their perception through apparel.
